WHEN A SYSTEM IS NOT FUNCTIONING, RELATIONS ARE IMPORTANT

WHEN SYSTEM IS NOT FUNCTIONING, RELATIONS ARE IMPORTANT

Solo exhibition, Institute for Contemporary art, Zagreb, Croatia
Curator: Janka Vukmir

It started with writing stories. I would take my notebook and practice automatic writing. It resulted in an audio recording presented on an exhibition.

On 6. 6. 2014, we had a public preparation of the exhibition. We invited the audience to join us in distilling plum brandy, regionally known as rakija. It was made by a friend Ivana Furac, while I mostly offered coffee and cakes that my mom made for visitors.
Another friend, Ivana Volda, made some dough for crescent rolls, and we had them baked in a nearby bakery.

On 9. 9. 2014 we had an exhibition opening. Distilling process resulted with (50% alcohol) plum brandy named FURAČKOVAČA, finally packed in bottles of 0.1l, 0.2l and 0.5l, and designed by a friend and a frequent collaborator Dina Karadzic.
The installation is followed by an audio recording that contains personal stories about communities developed through production of rakija.
